  1. To Kate, as a resident message board poster at Yahoo for over 5 years, I can honestly say that there was in fact debate. You had to learn how to get past some of that other c**p. And sometimes the posts - even from trolls (not the really obscene ones) - were so hilariously funny that my stomach ached from the belly laughs.

In life, you have to learn how to take the good with the bad, and learn how to weed through the shat to get to the good stuff.

If you don't have thick skin, you won't make it for long on the (former) Yahoo MBs.

  2. It's a shame all the way around.

  3. Both; it's a HUUUUGE defeat for free expression.

  4. It's George Bush's fault !!!

  5. I think it's a huuuge defeat for two both parties: for freedom of expression and for everyone's daily dose of comedy.

It's very sad all the way around.

  6. It's a HUUUGE defeat for the trolling professor who posted with the name's bcp_for_real and  blackchopperpilot and created the Rainforestman blog por nada. It's also a HUUUGE defeat for boons who had nothing in his life but trolling and picking garbage, it's a HUUUGE defeat for solo a.k.a. nagflow/Wolfgang who had many, many id's he trolled with. It's also HUUUGE defeat for lakerfanforreal a.k.a. MISTERWHITE who was white but pretended he was black. Last but not least, it's a huge defeat for bri, bri's wife/ trolling partner,  and coach a.k.a. officer_milkbone who was bri's friend and trolling partner

  7. Packers 31, Yahoo Boards 3

  8. Answer: None of the above.  It's humorous to see people refer to the c**p on the yahoo news discussions as actual "discussions."  98% of every comment was nothing more than trolling, and a whole lot of hate.  Not a debate.  An open-minded individual on there would be an extreme minority.  It was nothing but insults and insanity.  Yes there was a lot of political garbage, and I mean garbage in every sense of the word.  It was surprising how an innocent news story about the holidays could spawn anti-conservative, anti-liberal mish-mosh.  Never pro-anything, always anti.  Who is it a huge defeat for?  Considering that there was anti-everything, and some folks think yahoo is pro-liberal while some think it's pro-conservative, and in the end it's garbage anyway, it's not a defeat for anyone.  It's a defeat for the insanity and trolls (hopefully) that made the yahoo discussion area complete garbage.  It's a laugh that anyone would think that the forums were worth anything more than that.

On the other hand, personally I got some amusement out of reading the comments, but that is because I can have an appreciation of immaturity.  I'm not going to lie and say they are taking away some sort of meaningful thing though.  The forums should have been about discussion, and I'm sure that any good-intentioned person who attempted to discuss anything, soon got wind of what the yahoo forums were all about and gave up, aside from maybe a few determined individuals.  The removal of the boards is a defeat for the riff-raff and trolls.  Hopefully what is put in it's place is better, and at the same time not heavily censored.  How they can pull this off is beyond me.

  9. It's a huge defeat for Americans' freedom of speech.  We can thank a lawyer for their demise.

  10. Liberals would argue this wouldn't have happened under Clinton's watch

  11. It's a defeat for public discourse.  Yahoo! didn't like the opinions of its users being visible as commentary on social topics.  The deletion of the 'discuss' option simply removed the ability for people to counter the assertions made by the media (in that forum.)

I liked to read those comments.  I didn't post often and I didn't read many comments in depth, but I liked to get the 'pulse' of the public's reaction to news stories.  For that reason the discussion was an interesting tool.

Free speech is a myth of course, but it is nice to find areas for public discussion, and especially areas that are fairly visible.  We've just lost one more.

  12. YAHOO MESSAGE BOARD'S GOING DOWN

    ((((happened on Bush's watch)))))),
