Alright so everyone probably hears more about using a left hook rather than the right one in boxing. Why isn't the right one that popular? Is it useful?

  1. Yeah the right hook is useful, but so is the right bait.Depends on what fish you're trying to catch

  2. yes.

Majority of boxers use the orthodox stance.  The lead hand hook (in orthodox stance, the left), is thrown from a shorter distance than the right hook, making it hard to see.

For a southpaw, the right hook is as effective as a left hook to a fighter with the conventional/orthodox stance.

For conventional/orthodox fighters, it is still used: in combinations, to counter jabs by throwing overhand rights, as body hooks, etc.

But throwing a right hook lead in the conventional stance would probably be the hardest to land because you could see it coming (straights are faster, uppercuts could be hidden).

  3. left hook sounds cooler lol.

  4. The right hook is used by south paws and it's very useful. It's a great way to leverage a lot of power in a deceptively short distance. The left hook when used by someone in a conventional stance is called the right cross or overhand right. It requires an incredible amount of speed. Watch Ali use lead overhand rights against Foreman... it's an insult to professional boxers who work in microseconds. It was also incredibly effective and shouldn't have worked as it must travel a long distance and makes you vulnerable to a counter... but Ali's speed was practically supernatural.
