  1. Rainier III, the current Prince of Monaco, is a descendent of James IV of Scotland, grandfather of James I of England.  This would make him a distant cousin of the British royal family, but nothing particularly close.

The royal family of Monaco appears almost unique among European monarchies in not being closely linked to the others.  Because Queen Victoria had a number of children and grandchildren that married into the other monarchies, it's hard to find royals who are further than about 3rd or 4th cousins from each other, but the House of Grimaldi has managed it.

  2. i have been studying the monarchy for about 15years now and ive never found any link and also checking the royal line of succession which goes up to 1469th in line to the throne there is absolutely no contact between the two families

  3. Through  the  marriage  of  Monaco's  Princess  Caroline  and  Prince  Ernst-August  of  Hanover,  the  two  royal  families  are related.  See,  Prince  Ernst-August   is     a  German  Prince   who  is  from  the same  royal  house  as  Queen  Victoria. Before  she married  Prince  Albert   of   Saxe-Coberg Gotha,  her  last  name  was  Hanover  which    is   also  the  name  of  the  region  of  Germany  where  the  name  originated  from.   Ernst-August  is a  very  a  distant  cousin  of  The  Queen  and  Prince  Philip.  Princess  Alexandria, Caroline  and  Ernst-August's  daughter,  along  with   August's  four  children  from  his first  marriage  are  in line for the   British  Throne.  But  in  order  for  any  of  them  to  have  a  chance  of   ascending  the  throne,  there  are  many  other   family  members,  including  other  members  of  other  royal  families  such  as  Princess  Madeleine  of  Sweden,  her brother,  Prince  Carl  Philip,  Princess  Martha-Louise  of  Norway   and  several  others   would   have  to  have  something  happen  to  them. Hope  this helps.  Before  they  got  married,  Caroline  and  Ernst   actually  had  to  ask  the  Queen's   permission.  Their  daughter  is  in  line  for  both  the thones  of  Britain  and Monaco.

  4. I believe they may have inter-links in their cousins but they are their own separate royalty that has nothing to do with the each other.

  5. Not immediately but alot of European royal families had ties with the British a few 100 years ago so perhaps they have distant connections...

  6. I don't think so

  7. There is a very distant connection. The connection is through Queen Victoria. William and Albert are 6th cousins. There are two threads connected to this subject at

Here's a quote:"connects Monaco through Queen Victoria's husband Albert but I forgot a step somewhere. It all relates back to Ludwig who was a Prince of Baden so I am sure you can connect them in many different ways.

Grand Dukes Ludwig I and Ludwig II of Baden were unmarried. The Monaco-Baden connection comes via the British aristocracy: Princess Marie (daughter of Grand Duke Karl of Baden) married in 1843 William Douglas-Hamilton, 11th Duke of Hamilton and 8th Duke of Brandon. Their daughter, Lady Mary (1850-1922) married in 1869 Albert I, Sovereign Prince of Monaco (1848-1922). The marriage lasted a year, but produced a son who became Prince Louis II, Prince Rainier's grandfather.

There is a Saxe-Coburg connection with Baden (Princess Alexandrine of Baden married Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha who was Prince Albert's elder brother) but I can't see a link between S-C&G and Monaco. Alexandrine was the daughter of Grand Duke Leopold and Sophie of Sweden; Leopold was the son of Karl Friedrich, the first Grand Duke of Baden, by his second marriage, while Grand Duke Karl was the grandson of Karl Friedrich by his first marriage, so the connection is tenuous:

GD Karl Friedrich of Baden (1st m) - Karl - GD Karl - Marie - Mary - Louis of Monaco

GD Karl Friedrich of Baden (2nd m) - GD Leopold - Alexandrine (married to Ernest Saxe-Coburg) [no children]."
