Is the rubik's cube popular in Japan?

I am going to Japan and will be staying with a japanese family. I would like to get one of the family member rubik's cube but only if they are rare in Japan because I want to take something unusual.

  3. When I travelled there last month, the rubik's cube wasn't that fairly popular with the older kids but there were 'groups' of students who rubik's cubed in the school I went to.

    Japan also sells 4x4 and 5x5 in the shops. And regularly 3x3 cubes in the conveinience stores, so the students can quickly buy them. Rubik's cubes are one of those toys in Japan where they were the rage but now has died down a little.

    So to answer your question. Yes, rubik's cubes quite fairly popular at the moment in Japan. But not as much as it used to be.
