  1. Well supposedly Russia is pulling out, but it still seems like they are occupying some areas. I believe it is starting to settle down now. But NATO and the US are now looking to punish Russia for what they did (not in the means of military force though). Still, it is a fragile area and conflict, anything can spark a fight.

  2. Worse in my opinion

At first it was just the US threatening - that turned into NATO demands

The UN isn't going to be able to "do" anything because both of the major players , the US and Russia have veto rights - so that has now become a stalemate

The Russians are not going to allow a condemnation of themselves any more than the US is going to allow a condemnation of Georgia

The UK is wary of Russia as are the Germans

The US wants something "done" .... how badly is the real question

Rice either backs down or Putin does

Neither seem to be doing that about to do that or even thinking about doing that

What are the options though ?

Stop buying Russian gas ? Europe grinds to a halt within a week - so no not that

Dump the Russians currency and or bonds ? Nope the US and it's partners don't have any

Stop inviting them to international party's ? Maybe that is a definite option but will that satisfy Rice Bush and Cheney ? Or McCain or anyone in the US ? Not likely , but they might get stuck with that answer

A ground invasion or NATO troops moving into Georgia ?

Other than that brings us to the very brink of war , they might do that Rice seems to want that - but the US has already said they don't want to do it alone - Likely they can't do it alone

Nuclear war ? It could happen - Russia has already said Poland is now a target for strikes should a war break out

Patrols over the Alaskan coast have clearly upset Rice - or at least it is being used as a tool to get the other NATO nations in line either way - or both I am not sure

It is worse in my opinion because both sides are now in their own camps - not a lot of talking - not a lot of negotiation -

Rhetoric threats and more threats and more and more the other side needs to be punished this or that can not go ananswered

That makes it worse because there is no stop to that it just goes on until someone pulls "the trigger"
