Is the saying " You can do anything you put your mind into" true?

So, Im sort of a random person. I have tons of goals, and dreams! Im interested in the mortgage/real estate business, and Im also interested in film/writing. Anyway, right now I am working on getting my degree in business and then a masters in film. Someday I would like to teach business and film classes, and maybe write movies in my spare time..even if its just a hobby.

However, right now I live in a pretty big city, and someone even offered to train me as a mortgage loan officer. Now, I know that the pay takes a while to come in, but to me its totally worth it. Right now I do not work anyway, so any income would help and be extra anyway.

I talked to my grandma on the phone today and she always tries to talk me out of the real estate business because she tried it years back and only got one client. But, she quit after a few months, and had 4 kids to raise, and was going through a divorce. I dont want to disrespect her or anything, but I feel like it is something that I really want to do, and I just dont want to try and fail and have her say "i told you so"!

Any advice?

  1. lol

You can do it, put your back into it

dont forget the work along with the dream

Also,  You are right when you said what you said about your Grandmother...Things were different back then and she had other obligations (which is why it pays to keep it closed until you are married ladies!  and yes people marry jerks because the s*x is good)

Do what your heart desires.  You have drive and you can't let one comment hold you back.  GO TO SCHOOL for real estate if thats what you are going to do.  Don't do one of these late night tv programs that promise you this and that.  remember...put your back into it

  2. you most likely do have the ability to do what ever you put your mind to, but that doesnt necessarily mean that you will excell in whatever you put your mind to.

  3. It is so true.........good luck.......

  4. No, you cannot.  I could put my mind to breathing underwater or flying, but I could never do it.

And if you sell real estate AND teach film classes, you won't have any spare time.

  5. Most certainly!  Hard work, determination, optimism, faith...it sounds like you have all of these.

IF for some reason it doesn't end up working out, then you wont have lost  anything. You will have gained experience (in the business and in LIFE.)

  6. Baring a long diatribe answer, no, the saying is not true. We are limited by our financial resources, the market, family influence and competition with others. You have to work to find your niche in life and then defend it so you can make a living. You can try the real estate gig. If you fail with it, it is not for sure that grandma will say "I told you so". Sometimes that happens and sometimes not. Just be prepared for it.

  7. It depends. You should first ask yourself... what is the possibility of success?. You have to sell and do business in the right locate to make money. Secondly, you should also ask yourself if this is something you truly want to do. If it is, then you will for sure succeed. If its not and you know that you will only temporally take the job, then you won't succeed.

  8. i don't think the saying is undeniably true, but hard work does pay off.  i think you need to do what you feel you should, live life for you, always listen to those you respect, grandma included, but it's your life, you have t make it or break it, and you are the one to live with the consequences.  i'm sure there are alot of people who have done quite well in real estate.

  9. cat says I try to fly one time, fell 80 feet and broke arms and feet

  10. I'd say follow your heart. At the end of the day, wherever fate has brought, you wouldnt have any regrets.

  11. you should go for it if its what you want..

  12. You want to be a mortgage loan officer, not a rock star. I don't think it's so unrealistic - just be ready to work.
