  1. It's better in kickboxing.

Seriously, though: It's not bad.  Helpful if you know your opponent is bad at queen's pawn games.  But otherwise, the double king's pawn opening is much better.

  2. The Scandinavian defense is better known as the Center Counter defense (at least that's the name I learned.)  It's a very solid opening and very playable.  Black tends to fall a little behind in development regaining his pawn after 1. e4, d5, 2 e:d5, which is probably why it's not more popular.  But there's no refutation and Black has the advantage of forcing White to play his opening, so it's pretty hard for Black to get surprised with an unexpected novelty.  Play it a few times in casual games and see if you like it well enough to add to your repertoire.

  3. Hi,

The Scandinavian Defence +2000 others may be found on my personal web page - link below?  I hope this is helpful for you.

    Yours sincerely,

  4. Yes, sortof, anyway.

The Scandinavian defence (1.e4 d5 2.exd5) is a defence in the literal way. It's not a counterattacking opening like the Sicilian. Black will happily give up his centre and hold white off with pawns on e6 en c6, while he puts some pressure on the half open d-file. White will have a pawn on d4, if he's scared it may be on on d3.  If black manages to break the game open with c6-c5 or e6-e5 to exchange the d-pawn, he can at least equalize. If white can bust things open with d4-d5 or launch some kind of attack with his space advantage, you're in trouble. So, the Scandinavian is an equalizing opening and it's pretty solid, but it doesn't offer black great winning chances. This is because black's space is mostly restricted to the thirst 3 rows, while white occupies at least 4. The idea is comparable to the main variation of the Caro-Kann. The pawn structure is usually also the same.

So, your opinion of the position will depend on your playing style.

    Good luck.
