Is the shoulder roll useful in amateur boxing?

Or will the other guy still score points? Should i just keep a high guard?

It could do good as long as you know how to use it propoley, and avoid to get hit at all. Amateur judges vary big time from pro judge's.

A high gaurd is better, because Amateur judges often dont score body shots anyway.

if you are able to use it properly then yes. the shoulder roll isn't used often in amateur boxing unless you are in a very high level of amateur boxing. If you aren't at that place yet it isn't advisable to use it b/c you will only get hit in the face.
