  1. I'm assuming you are in the UK, according to the DVLA you have to be able to read a car registration plate that's 20 metres away.

Though when I did my test they just pointed to a car in the car park and asked if I could read it, that was a lot less than 20 metres away, though that was 5 years ago now, they may be stricter now.

  2. No, it isn't very exacting. It consists of being asked to read the number of a parked car a short distance away. If you are able to do that, then they consider you as sufficiently well sighted to drive.

  3. Where I live.....you look into a machine and read the fifth line. I just had to have my license renewed. Wear your contacts. You should be able to see with your contacts in.

  4. It all depends on where you live. Each State operates their licensing differently. In New York, all you have to do is be able to read a certain line on one of those posters that you have to read at the eye doctor during an exam. You shouldn't have a problem if your contacts are in. I wear contacts as well and didn't have any problems passing. If you're truly worried and see better with your glasses on, wear them. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
