Question:

Is the silverfish bug something to worry about?

I found 2 in my new home and was horrified!

  1. We found that it wasn't the silverfish bugs themselves that were the problem, but the roaches and ants that follow.  They were a tell tell sign of what was to come.  So, wipe down your counters w/ clorox - water (not too much clorox & use hot water) wherever you saw the silverfish.  Wipe everything and let air dry.  Mop your floors (all floors) w/ hot clorox - water, too.

    That should do the trick.  Do this anytime you see one critter; they're the scouts.  Kill them and sanitize.  Soap alone does not kill and wipe away the chemical trail they leave.  Clorox does!

  2. Silverfish themselves are harmless. but they can be an indication of either a not thoroughly cleaned kitchen, or of an old house (with damp).

    If the cause is the first, then you might end up with other vermin that *are* more repugnant.

    If it is the second, there's not much you can do, except try to locate any *dangerous* damp areas and try to keep them dry.
