Question:

Is the state the country is in due to our own upside down moral standards?

I'm not making judgements based on religion/culture/anything like that, it's just an observation.

But how bad have things got where we make gods out of footballers and pop singers, and a no mark talentless woman can become rich and famous for opening her legs to a footballer. Yet we demonize those who serve our society, who protect us and look after us, police and soldiers, nurses, teachers, and anyone who wants to make something of themselves and serve society?

Just a thought.

  1. That  is probably one of many determining factors as to why we are in the mess we are in, and the rest of them would not all fit on this page.

  2. Could not agree with you more and do not believe it is sour grapes as someone suggested - I really do despair at times when listening to the news, especially about our "gods" in the premier league - pass the sick bag.

  3. ever since the turn of the 20th century, the very people in control of our modern day federal reserve banking system set the stage for certain changes in our culture in the areas of education, medicine (ama), womems rights, world policy and alliances, and regulations in all areas of our daily lives, thus , we've become molded mentally to think a certain way, act a certain way and it all started at the education level long ago.

If everyone in the world gave up their televisions for one year, I bet we would see a noticable change in the world.

I dont think we demonize those who serve in society as much as those who set policy in society for the wrong reasons.

  4. Lack of respect

    Lack of deterrence

    Pitiful punishments

    Lack of moral responsibility

    Lack of effective leadership

    The country is wasting away.

  5. Yep, we're turning into the usa, being rich justifies everything.

  6. Apathy to anything which isn't immediately affecting people is a biggie.  How many people actually pay attention to what their "Honourable representatives" do in office, after they vote them in, viewing them as the "lesser of two evils"?

Passing off "garbage for profit" as "free speech", because sell sells (and it sells very profitably) is another pollutant.

Then we have greed.  Five sources own all the major media in the States.  Alarmism sells papers, so tell them that all bees are mysteriously dying (in spite of last year's situation being caused by an early spring interrupted by a very cold spell), and tell them their planet is melting due to their petrol use (in spite of 17,000 scientists signing the Oregon Petition, stating "human activity has nothing to do with 'global warming', if such a thing exists" - I mean what are 17,000 scientists compared to zillions of magazines and periodicals stating we have to move to more expensive alternate energy sources to save the planet?  Don't believe in global warming?  Obviously, you're in the dark and uncaring!)  Change the way people think, and you change their spending habits.

But, as in the Roman days, give the people their bread and circuses, and they will content with the status quo.

  7. Re. "we make gods out of footballers and pop singers, and a no mark talentless woman can become rich and famous for opening..."

    SOUR GRAPES!

It's just an observation. Just a thought

  8. Society has lost its moral compass because (generalisation here) it no longer believes in absolutes. Truth is seen as relative.

Forget religion for a moment whilst I suggest that there is a Moral Absolute and if society were once more to turn to Him for moral guidance it would find a purpose in life instead of sinking into self-destructive hedonism.

Please note that this cannot be 'just a thought'. Either it is absolutely wrong (and we are just an organised load of atoms) or it is absolutely right (in which case we are inherently valuable and there is a Solution available for our problems). The answer to this question does matter and it is desperately sad to see people flying off this mortal coil into (what kind of?) eternity without ever having seriously considered the most important question in life.

  9. Yes.I believe that Peter Andre and Jordan exemplify this.I mean, how can such a retarded woman end up with so much money? She really is a complete ham-head!

  10. Yes, that is part of the problem.

Greed has a lot to do with it too.

  11. Sometimes I wonder if the shallowness of the current times is a reaction to not wanting to face and solve the real problems of our time.  We find it easier to retreat into the meaningless because we are overwhelmed by the reality of things like terrorism, war, global environmental disaster, famine and poverty.

I guess you could call it "global denial".

At some point - probably when things are close to bottoming out - we will find ourselves in the corner having to fight our way back into reality.  Hopefully it won't be too late then...
