    There are observance days in Buddhism called "Uposatha Days."  One of those observance days, called Visakha Puja, is usually observed in May.  Vesak celebrates the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death.

    On Uposatha days, lay followers in the Theravada tradition typically dress in white, take the eight precepts, and spend the day in meditation, and listening to dhamma talks given by monks.  Different nations have different ways of observing Uposatha, but this is one way.
