Is the stuff in The Happening possible?

If you have seen the movie you know what im talking about.

Are trees and plants and stuff actually able to kill us maybe? This sounds sooo stupid if you havnt seen the movie or have no idea what im talking about

Trees and plants do not have a brain. The basic requirement for some kind of intelligent communication. In other words, no.

The only thing that will destroy us is God or us.. or an astroid.  :)

its a very big universe(es) out there that GOD STARTED and seeing that it is what GOD believes that REALLY DOES COME REAL... anything is possible...

well. I really dont think that it could happen in such large scale and I also don't think that this "toxins" will make human commit suicide.

But plant DO communicate with each other, with bacteria and insects. If you google QUORUM SENSING you'll find that many organisms that don't speak, that are deaf can communicate using chemicals such as methyl jasmonate.

it is quite amazing, but the chance that it will affect us...is quite unreal.

I saw the movie yesterday.. and well, I really really doubt plants will  talk to each other and strong gusts of wind will make us want to commit suicide.

Though you never know, because it IS nature, but.. no.

Well it explained that the virus makes certain messages sent to our brain stop. The messages tell our brain how to protect ourselves and the virus stop this! So maybe thats possible - for the messages to be stopped ( if thats actually true what the film true).

However, without the messages were not going to PURPOSELY harm ourselves! So nope, there mgiht be the teeniest tiniest chance of us not going to be able to protect ourselves, but there is absolutely no chance of us killing ourselves!

First of all, I would not be so quick to ridicule every possiblilty. In order for us humans and other animals to communicate, we need brains. But who knows about plants. Maybe they have there own way of communicating.

Like the other guy said, the idea that they could make every kill themselves is probably impossible. But nature does have its ways of defending itself (natural disasters, certain properties they can take on) and we definitely are hurting the earth, so who knows. I mean, I'm not saying the movie is true, but it does have a good message.

Oh puhleeze with the GOD answers.

Obviously it is possible for plants to defend themselves, for example, they turn dark brown when being exposed extreme sunlight.

Some plants are poisonous and are deadly when eaten.

But for plants to actively seek out humans to kill? I doubt it.
