Is the surrounding area of MacArthur Park safe?

I've seen lots of housing very cheap and spacious in the area. How is the area in safety in general? I've heard MacArthur Park has been slowly gentrified last couple of years.

Like half or 1 mile from the park?

ok, if you're talking about the MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, it's been a while (couple years) since i've been there but is was really not a nice area when i was looking there. if you drive around the park at night, that's where all the hookers and drug dealers were. yes, it has been going through a gentrification but not as much as silverlake. rule of thumb, if the apt is cheap and spacious, it's in a questionable area. go and drive around there. are the yards clean and well kept or is there trash everywhere? are there random people hanging out on corners? how do you feel driving thru the neighborhood? if you feel uncomfortable, don't move there.
