  1. Fiction? no, sensationalist yes, the newspaper industry is all about advertising and the advertising in each publication is geared to a particular section of society, as far as the Sun is concerned the reading age is 9 and the 'news' is mostly trivial stories with no particular merit, those stories that do have merit are usually reduced to a parody of the facts.

Take a look at the advertising in the paper, it will give you a clue as to the readership.

As a contrast, take a look at the advertising and news content of The Times which has a reading age of 16.

  2. Yes, it is mostly fiction.  A caution below the title tells readers to "suspend belief for the sake of enjoyment."  Not too long ago it merged with "Weekly World News," the most fantastical of the tabloids that I've seen around.

Robert Stevens, an editor of Sun, was the first casualty of the 2001 anthrax attacks.  Hmmm.....

  3. Are you talking about this Sun (British),

    or this one (American)?

The British Sun is a "factual" tabloid, albeit with a tendency to sensationalise and distort facts. The American Sun tabloid is pure fiction.
