Hi. I'm a 26yr old stay at home mom who went back to school after the birth of my daughter last year. I want to finish this time!! Anyway... I'm going for teaching this time around. I want to be a secondary teacher teaching English or history from grades 4-9 is my major. My husband and I will be moving to the Columbus, Ohio area in 5-7 years. I will be finished with my school by than. My question is will it be hard for me to find a job ? What about a master's program? Do employers still pay for a teaching masters degree? Thanks!!

  1. You will probably find a job, but English and history is the most common secondary teaching degree so it might take you longer to find one. Science, math, and special ed are the areas in teaching that are rising in need.

  2. If you are certified, you should be able to get a job

you will make more with a masters

some districts have tuition reimbursement if you are working toward your masters

  3. English and SS are much more common majors but it is still relatively easy to get a job with those degrees.  If/when you student teach you just have to impress the department head and/or principal if you don't get a job at that school, then they will put in a good word for you.  Once you are certified you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a job in Ohio...may not be the one you want but you gotta start somewhere.  Each district has its own policy regarding your masters degree ( at least that's how it is around here)
