  1. yes.

  2. i dunno!?

  3. I would imagine in this terrible violent world somebody would kill some poeple with a chainsaw...

  4. The claim is actually based on a set of murders that occurred in the 1950's and 1960's, yes. The cannibalism was an actual event. However, the police officer investigating after the fact who bit it... no. And the whole "leatherface" thing... nobody really knows. And, there was no child there, at least not one recorded in the actual records.

In the real story, the Texas Rangers went into a town in 1966 and arrested 5 people in the town, killing 3 of the 8 people who were living there. All 8 were found to have human flesh between their teeth, and were originally reported by a woman who was 26 years old who had watched the townspeople attack her boyfriend with a chainsaw. When she got back to town with a Ranger, the town seemed deserted, but there was a bloody scrap of skin on the ground. The Ranger, sensing that this was a good sign that the place was dangerous, withdrew with the woman and returned with a full contingent of Rangers.

Among the people to be killed were the town sheriff, the mayor, and an elderly man who was not identified, but who was wearing the skin from someone else's face as a mask (this is likely the source for "leatherface"). All three of their fingerprints were found on the bloody chainsaw which was later recovered, in addition to fingerprints of 2 of the 5 people arrested. DNA evidence wasn't gathered back then, so there's no telling how many victims they'd actually had.

So yes... this is "based on" a true event. Though there wasn't nearly the body count that the movie made it out to be. The "massacre" was accomplished by the simple fact that all of those arrested claimed that it had been happening for 10 years or more. There's no telling how many people went through there in that time.

  5. i researched this and every website i checked out ( about 10) seems to agree that the movie was inspired by a true serial killer. NOT based on a true story. The serial killer who inspired the movie was named Ed Gein. He also inspired other movies such as the silence of the lambs and psycho. Ed didn't use a chainsaw to kill his victims but he did like to keep spare body parts around the house and did wear human masks Ed lived in wisconsin not texas and killed during 1954-1957 time frame.

  6. Yeah it is. I live in Texas and it is definately based on a true story. Scary, huh?
