  1. Hi!-

I was wondering about that just the other day! I think some people pronounce it Florida and some "Florda".

    Jamie.

  2. Flor - i - duh    (it's only silent if you don't say it out loud)

  3. floor-i-dah... nope

  4. no, but ppl say that word so quickly that it may sound like it

  5. If you are a 75-year old retiree from New York/Jersey sent down to Florida to throw elections, keep out industry, drive 10mph on the A1A, and complain about the heat, you will pronounce it FLARDA. All those not spawns of h**l do in fact pronounce the "i" (as in FLORIDA.)

  6. yeah and so is the 'i' in is

  7. no, it sounds like "uh"

    floor-uh-duh

  8. pronunciation is a matter of personal preference.  there have been court cases about the pronunciation of certain words and the courts have refused to mandate any pronunciation preference.  Even attempts to legislate pronunciation are inefective.  For example the state legislature in Arkansas

has mandated the pronunciation  Ar kansas instead of the commonly used   Ar Kan saw  many areas have pronunciations different from the spelling...

Cairo Illinois is pronounced Kayro by residents.

so people living in florida and keep the i silent if they want.

  9. No

  10. No.  Listen carefully and you will hear it when people speak it.
