I'm not looking for whether they are officially called 'Legos' or 'Lego bricks' but how LEGO itself is pronounced.

  1. I've always said "lae-go", and most people I know say it that way too.

  2. The answer is that it's how the Danes pronounce the word "leg", which I believe is more like a short e (as in "beg") rather than a long a sound (as in "lay").  The name "Lego" actually comes from a concatenation of the Danish words "leg" and "godt", meaning "play well", coined in 1934 by Ole Kirk Christiansen.  So as a result, the answer lies in how the Danish word "leg" is pronounced.

However, there is no "official" pronunciation.  I've heard company representatives and even their CEO and owner pronounce it differently.
