Is the trend of elderly adults and younger adults with no families "adopting" each other healthy?

I heard about this. People without families adopting each other and hanging out on holidays and the like. I think that is awesome.

I think it's great!  Some people don't have traditional families, or have such a dysfunctional family that they can't maintain a relationship.  I think this is a great way for people to celebrate life, and be there for each other.  It takes a lot more than blood to make a "real" family, as far as I'm concerned.
