I'm trying to find out if the Triumph Thruxton 900 (865cc) would be an alright first bike. The guy at the dealership said it would be but he's trying to sell so I don't know if he's telling the truth. I've never ridden before but I'm getting ready to take the MSF course and I love this bike. If it's not a good option if anyone can recommend any other bikes that may look similar but may be more suited power wise it would definitely be appreciated.

  1. It's a great bike for a beginner. It is not too big or too small. Don't let these "Nancy's" tell you that you have to get a small bike as a beginner.

Small bikes are a waste of money for adults. You will outgrow them too fast.

I say get the Triumph and take the MSF course

  2. I've been riding for many years, and I really think the Triumph, while it;s a nice bike is too much bike for a beginner. If you're a tall, strong person you might be able to handle it.It's a hoss.I think if I were you I'd go check out some less poweful Japanese bikes, around 400-500 c.c.,s.After you gain some experience you can always trade the smaller bike in on the Triumph if that's the bike you really want. Good Luck and the safety course is a very good idea.Always wear your safety equipment and be safe!

  3. The Thruxton would be a good first bike (provided your feet touch the ground while sitting on it) although the narrow low set handlebars aren't the easiest to use for a beginner (the Bonneville would be a bit easier to learn on) but if you feel comfortable on it, go for it.

Don't listen to some of these other people on here telling you nto buy a smaller bike, because if you do, you will only have to trade up to the Triumph after you learn to ride.

The Triumph is not an overly powerful bike, althouigh it has good usable power, and is a bike you will keep for a long time. I had a Triumph Bonneville (2002 centenary edition) and almopst cried when I had to sell it. ( I needed the money to start a business) And I will be buying a Triumph Scrambler as soon as finances allow.

So buy the Triumph, learn to ride and enjoy!!
