I will stay near there during my holidays. I will have to get off the metro and take a bus there at 11 p.m.. Is it dangerous? Did anyone change the metro there?

  1. I use to take my Bus there and I never have any problem.

Just be discreet and don´t care about people whatever they are doing. But generally Paris is not dangerous than some cities in the US.

  2. Paris is generally a safe city with little violent street crime. I have only been to the Gallieni station when arriving in Paris by the Eurolines bus which stops there. The neighborhood seemed rather ordinary.

The area is known as Bagnolet and is on the edge of the city. It would seem a poor choice for a place to stay on a vacation.

The area has its own website which can be found here: http://www.ville-bagnolet.fr/

  3. In my experience, the primary "danger" in Paris is pickpockets.  They are very good at what they do and often work in pairs, especially in areas where tourists gather and are too distracted by the sites to notice they're being robbed.   However, they are not violent.  You might get pickpocketed, but you won't get mugged.

Things you can do to be safer:

*Be aware of your surroundings (duh)

*Don't stand with your bag/backpack/etc. towards the door of the metro.  They can grab it and take off as the doors close & you're stuck in the train car as it pulls away.

*Don't carry all your cash in one place.  Only have enough out for the necessities that day.

*Women can hold their purse tight between their arm and their body.  Men can keep your wallet in your front pocket if possible.

*Consider a money belt that can be worn under your clothing as a safe place for extra money and your passport.

These are things my husband and I do no matter where we travel.  It's really not scary in Paris - I'd be much more frightened going to a big city in the US where there is much more violence.

One last note: the metros generally run until midnight or 12:30am but I'm not sure about the buses.  You might want to contact the hotel in advance and verify the bus hours and how frequently they come so you're not stuck standing around in the dark waiting.
