Im searching to buy a new car and have no idea about purchasing a car by brand and durability. My last car i had for 20 years. I've been looking at the volkswagen family cars, esp. the touareg. Is the touareg considered to be a good car that could last a long time. Very dependable? Perks or flaws?

  1. I have a Toureg and have had all kinds of problems with it.  I was told on my 20k service that my tires needed replacement.  I agreed to get them replaced, the service Advisor said it was common to go through tires fast  The tires were over 200 hundred dollars a piece.

They also said my brakes would need replacement soon.  $750 dollars in parts and an hour and a half labor per axle.(100 dollars an hour)

The car started running funny so I took it in.  Turns out a fuel Injector needed to be replaced.  But they did that under warranty.  They also replaced some trim pieces that were flaking, under warranty.  Thank god for warranty,  Hope I can sell it before that expires.

Now the dash says I have a flat tire, but the air pressure is the same in all the tires?

Sometimes in the morning there is a noise that Volkswgen can't figure out.  Like water running through hoses?

  2. check consumer reports, ANY volkswagen is a NO GO in their book. Sure they are trendy, but the bottom line is, they are worthless pieces of BLAH

Designed in Germany, Built in Mexico, Sold in the States

    Think about it

p**s poor quality followed closely by p**s poor design

Ive worked on alot of these, that not only I, but VW techs(best of the best blah blah blah) coulnt figure out the problem(the big wig designers on the phone in germany diddnt even know what the h**l was going on with a few problems)

  3. The Touareg is basically the same outside as the Porsche Cayenne, but that's where it stops.  If you want a car to last a long time this is not the car  to be looking at.  In fact they are selling very few of these cars.

    Please stay away from it.

If you are looking for a 4 wheel drive the best ones really are the Lexus and the Porsche, but they are both expensive.

I suggest that you look at the Nissan Murano, it has gotten rave reviews

  4. well it hasn't been around long enough to tell how good they will be in the long run. look at popular mechanics long term test on their website and consumer reports. Both do multi-month and multi-year test on cars and give them ratings on durability and repair costs.

  5. Nope.

    It crummy from many aspects.

For starters, its an SUV and not a very good one.

As an import, its assembled in slovakia, the mexico of central europe.

The reason that Czechoslovakia split was that the slovaks were lazy drunkards.

If the car was made in czech, then that would be a different story.

The most reliable cars are as follows...

       1. Lexus

       2. Mercury

       3. Cadillac

       4. Toyota

       5. Acura

       6. Buick

       7. BMW

       8. Lincoln

       9. Honda

      10. Jaguar

    Why?

Lexus is a better toyota. IS (corolla) and es (camry) only.

Mercury - The Mercury Milan is a rebranded Ford Mondeo.

Cadillac - Northstar -> CTS, STS, and BLS (EU) only.

Toyota - cheaper lexus, only good\reliable cars are camry and corolla.

Acura - European Honda, civic and accord (TL)

Buick - Very popular in asia, oddly enough, lacrosse and park avenue that is.....

BMW - Pure German, 1 series and 3 series only.

Lincoln MKS and MKZ are based on the european Ford Mondeo.

Honda - Crummy american\japanese models(the usa accord is a crummy legend). civic and accord (TL)

Jaguar - XF is a ultra-lux mondeo. Quality is plummeting since Ford sold Jaguar to TaTa of india, the makers of little 3 wheeled cars and mercury polution.

    Why no Mercedes ?

They got Chryslerized and so did Mitsubishi.

Chryslerization is a disease that causes quality to plummet no matter what you do....and it happens when you merge with chrysler, even temporarily....

    Why no nissan ?

They are made in mexico now.

Why no GM base brands ?

    They are all crummy.

    Why not more ford?

Volvo aint that great, the entire american line is aweful and the only reliable models are the modeo and focus....the design is way too bold...

    Why no Chrysler ?

They are down there....with benz and audi....

As you can see, all of these are technically imports, even the american brands....

  7. Needs Front and Rear Brakes every 20,000 miles

Needs Front and Rear Tires every 20,000 miles

$4,000 for Brakes and Tires EVERY 20,000 miles.

Eats gas like it was free.
