Is the white edelweiss a symbol in Literature? Symbol of what?

  1. "Modernly" it was the symbol/insignia of the Wehrmacht mountain infantery during  WWII.  The flower itself of course is found at quite high mountain altitudes.  

    Translated, roughly, it means noble white(flower).  Perhaps this would lend itself to symbolizing, generally, someone who is noble, courageous, adventurous, as in mountain climber?   :))
