I'm just curious to know if the world is a perfect circle and that there are no jagged edges. Mountains don't count. lol.

  1. That's a good question...but idk

  2. no it bulges a bit @ the equator.

  3. The Earth is wider at the equator (43km wider than pole-to-pole) due to the centripetal force of the rotation of the Earth.  It is also slightly stretched along the axis facing the moon at any given time, due to tidal forces (hence ocean tides).  The land doesn't shift as much as the oceans do.

  4. I think I read somewhere that the Earth is about 3% out of being a perfect sphere. Not much, but enough.

  5. No, it's not a perfect sphere.  It's an oblate spheroid.  The rotation of the Earth causes the equator to bulge outward slightly, and the poles to pull in slightly.

  6. earth is an oblate spheroid and with no jagged edges, if mountains are to be ignored.

    thnks
