Is the world coming to an end? (a popular topic)?

First, came the 2012 Doomsday prophecy, then global warming was realized, shortly thereafter, the honeybees began to die, then the storms in the midwest, followed by the cyclone at the other side of the world. And now, there's been an earthquake in china, 7.8, the largest they've had in 30 YEARS. Now something's going on with the whales, and not to mention 9/11. And did you hear about those "little" earthquakes near California?

Is the end of the world as we know it coming to an end?

  1. Yes. If we assume that the world will end on a particular date, then every moment is a moment closer to the end of the world even if it is several billion years away.

Humanity will not face a violent and rapid decline. The only scary thing about global warming will be the collapse of governments and so called civillisation. Humanity will endure. I think the only thing that can wipe humanity out is a catastrophe like a meteor which can shatter the planet or a ridiculously virulent disease.

  2. 1.) The 2012 doomsday prophecy has no basis in reality, so it can't be used as evidence suggesting the world is ending.  Also, the 2012 prophecy isn't the first.  There have been hundreds throughout the last 2,000 years in the Western Hemisphere alone.

2.) Global warming has been a concern for decades.

3.) A significant portion of the nation's honeybees have expired.  Research is currently underway in an attempt to explain this.  Although it's funny to think of this as the Great Bee Rapture, there is no evidence to suggest this is the case.

4.) As a life-long resident of the Midwest I can tell you there are severe storms every spring.  Death tolls are much higher when there is little or no warning or when people are asleep.  Some years are worse than others.

5.) There are cyclones and hurricanes every year.  Some years are worse than others.  When people aren't given adequate warning the death toll will be higher.  When they hit overpopulated areas with poorly constructed housing the death toll will be higher.

6.) There are thousands of earthquakes every year.  Some years are worse than others.   When people aren't given adequate warning the death toll will be higher.  When they hit overpopulated areas with poorly constructed housing the death toll will be higher.

7.) What's going on with the whales?  I've heard nothing.

8.) 9/11 is not an "act of God" like the others, but an act of man.  A group of people made the deliberate decision to do what they did.  As such, this is no indication of the state of the world/planet, but the state of mind of a certain group of people.

So relax Chicken Little :-).  There is no need to cherry-pick bits of information to support an end of the world lament.  The world will not come to an end for a long time.  We humans will come to an end long before that, but there is no reason to think our demise is right around the corner.

  3. These things have always happened.

    Natrual disasters that is

And they will contiune for a long time.

I dont think the end is near, not at all.

im still waiting for the big one to hit california

ohhh and dont forget about the fires that are popping up

  4. Funny thing about the Midwest, it's still there. I haven't seen any big stories about mass die-offs and rivers of blood and wailing and gnashing of teeth in the Bible Belt.

Funny thing about the China earthquake, I haven't heard them declare it some kind of international disaster, cancel the olympics, go to the UN and beseech the world for immediate aid etc

Funny thing about the 2012 Doomsday prophecy, it is one of only countlessly many doomsday prophecies, its only distinction is that it the year in its name has not yet happened so it has not yet joined the rest of them on the scrap heap of history.

Funny thing about the earthquakes in California, no, I didn't hear about any earthquakes that were supposedly "little" but really huge, if there had been the people I know who live there would surely have told me about them.

As for not having had an earthquake that big for 30 years, a country that suffers such earthquakes more frequently than that would definitely be high on the list of "world's most geographically unfortunate nations."

As for global warming, THAT is real enough, but it is not the end of the world... though perhaps the world as we know it will end, if it is not dealt with for what it is, rather than being passed off as some kind of inevitable, apocalyptic doom.

The cyclones? Those happen regularly, every year. Perhaps global warming is making those, and their counterparts the hurricanes, gradually worse. But not end-of-the-world worse.

As for 9/11, that was the end of 4 airplanes, 2 skyscrapers and a few thousand people, again, a far cry from the end of the world.

What's going on with the whales? They get lost sometimes I guess. They don't all get lost. Maybe some of them are just stupid? It's been said though I don't know if true that they may rely on earth's magnetic field for navigation, and fluctuations in the field can throw them off course. Funny thing about the magnetic field, it fluctuates a lot, in particular the north and south poles have switched polarity periodically many times over the ages. The whales and other fauna survived it, I figure we will too

  5. Hey world is coming to end from the very first day it began to live

With every destruction it transforms to somthing to be survived ,it sounds philosophic , but its true like the great law

Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it can be transformed to something sustainable.

And for chris g for that 2012 stuff here is entire theory

  6. Only God knows what will happen to us, so leave it on His hands, relax and enjoy your life to the best of your abilities.  Treat the next man right and you will enjoy love and joy until....

  7. Yes the world is coming to an end. However, it is still around 4-5 billion years from now when the Sun blows away its outer layers and begins to break down. That is about how long it will take to exhaust all of the gasses causing the nuclear fusion that currently gives us heat and light.

That being said, there is no reason to think that us as human race will exist in the form that we currently are.

Stop listening to all the sensationalism in the media. It is unhealthy to think down these lines. All it does is breed negativity and festers these thoughts into having a depressed state of mind.

NONE OF THESE PROPHACIES HAVE ANY SEMBLENCE OF REALITY!!

  8. Since the thread is already open, can anyone tell me the website link for this 2012 thing?

To the asker, believe what you want to: worry about the things you can control.

  9. Every single thing that is happening now, as far as earthquakes and doomsday prophecies and climate change HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, SEVERAL TIMES. The world is not coming to an end, it's not the end times, 9/11 was an act perpetrated by intolerant, religious nutjobs.

Relax and enjoy your life and stop worrying about stupid c**p like that.

And stop listening to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

It's times like this that make me glad I'm an atheist heathen.

P.S. Do a search of a bunch of idiots that called themselves "Millerites". Their "prophet" kept saying the world was coming to an end, even gave dates and everything -- his followers were so convinced he was right, they sold everything they had, bought "ascension robes", stood on a hilltop and waited for god to send his invisible chariots to come pick them up. They did this several times, because even after nothing continued happening, their "fearless leader" kept saying "uh -- I miscalculated. Lemme try again."

    Guess what continued to happen?

  10. All the elements that you cite are but a few of the more subtle realities of the changing natural world.  These are incredibly serious, even catastophic events that may not bode well for the human experiment.

But watch as governments, especially the US, drag their feet until the tipping point is reached - beyond the point of no return.

I fear a genuine devaluation of human life on a massive scale and a near vanishing of human dignity.

And very dark, human forces are at work with a grand plan for our planet and for it's civilization, and it's not pretty.

911 was the trigger, allowed to occur, with the sea change in military action abroad and government policies and power at home to follow.

Take a good look around if you doubt it.
