  1. Short answer -- NO!

Now, we KNOW that the world will end someday. Both science and religion tell us that,

But neither way tells us WHEN.  There is NO WAY to predicte the end of the world . . .

. . . .At least not until it's wayyyy too late.  Like if scientists see a huge asteroid coming, and they can't do anything about it.  Then, we'll know in a couple of months.

But what YOU are hearing is about Mayan Calendars.  The ancient Mayans had a calendar that is based on a 5000 year cycle.  Every 5000 years the cycle "resets itself" back to zero.  According to Mayan legend, EVERYTHING gets destroyed and the world starts over.

That means that this happened BEFORE -- 5000 year ago.  But if that is true, how do we know about pyraminds, and cavemen, and dinosaurs?  They lived LONGER than 5000 year ago, and their evidence wasn't destroyed!

If the world wasn't destroyed 5000 years ago, why would it be destroyed in 2012?

Complicating this issues is the fact that the Winter Solstice (the shortest day of the year) happens on Decembver 21, 2012 -- the same date that the Mayan Calendar says the world will end.  Now, the Pagans (people who believe in nature more than God) think that this date is "magical", and if they don't pray and dance hard enough, the sun will never "come back" for summer.

But the sun has been coming back for millions of years, even before the pagans "figured out" the shortest day of the year.  So why would the sun NOT "come back" in December 22, 2012?

This whole idea of the world ending in 2012 is just stories that were designed to scare little kids.

Is it working on you, too???

  2. I read somewhere that it is going to be a new era but i don't know what to believe because some people say that an asteroid is going to destroy our planet, other people say that there are going to be "ten plagues" and other people say that earth will explode... It depends what you believe.

If you're asking in scientific way then read articles about "the end" in wikipedia :)

  3. i hope not!

  4. not if the liberals have their way!

  5. I hope not. I've got big plans in January 2013....non-refundable!

  6. No. Everyone said the world would end in the year 2000 and we're still here aren't we?

  7. NO!

Nothing spectacular will happen in 2012 (unless you count the Olympics in London).

It is just a myth which mysteriously propagates (mostly because of the History Channel and YouTube)

The Mayan culture/society/way of life is long since dead

Therefore as an end to "the world" 2012 was a wildly optimistic estimate for them!

And anyway – that is the wrong interpretation of the whole calander thing – it’s just the end of a cycle. And since calendars are based on astronomical motions of one kind or another, they are inherently cyclic. Our western calendar ends on December 31st every year!

Planet X/Nibiru does not exist. If it did we would have found it by now. We have mapped the sky in the infrared several times in the last 25 years (including WMAP, IRAS etc), and it would show up. It is not there. We would have found it if it existed. So all the nonsense about the return of Nibiru/Planet X is just that – nonsense

There is no scientific evidence for the existence of Nibiru

Furthermore, at the distance it must be to hit us in a little over 4 years, it would be reflecting enough light from the sun to be detectable.

Thanx to previous question from Brant and answer from bikenbeer2000, we know how bright it should be by now – it would have a apparent magnitude of 7.4 – which would not be visible with the naked eye – but easily visible in a modest telescope and would have been spotted by amateur. If there was a conspiracy to keep it quiet – it would be out of the bag by now.

Ask someone where it is supposed to be, get a pair of binoculars and look for it.

The videos on YouTube that purport to have evidence are disingenuous to say the least. They put together pictures of other objects (e.g. Jupiter, comets even a dust shell around a distant red giant star) and try to scare people. There is no validity to their claims. They present NO EVIDENCE at all.

As for the predicted catastrophes – the most popular one seems to be the Pole Shift!

The sun will have a pole reversal that year – it has one every 11 years – it is not a problem.

The earth’s magnetic field is less predictable –

but is still nothing to worry about: we know that the magnetic field does not collapse in the process of reversing polarity- if it did, there would be major extinctions that correlate with the geologic record for pole reversals - there is no correlation.

Now let’s tackle the “Galactic Alignment”

Here’s a nice site that explains what it means, and explains that is does not happen on December 21st 2012:  http://alignment2012.com/whatisGA.htm

Also see the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_Al...

which tells you that the precise alignment of the solstice with the Galactic equator was in 1998. It did not cause problems. The Galactic Equator is purely a human construct – not a physical thing. And we do not get any closer to the black hole in the center, which remains approximately 8000 parsecs (26,000 light years) away.

  8. ahh! i'm scared too! lol! of coarse not!

  9. So am I, But that's barely impossible, you see, the sun is still on, so I think earth can live longer.

  10. yeah, im scared too.

    GOOOOO GREEEN PEOPLE !

  11. Let's place a bet: if it does I will give you 100 dollars. If it doesn't then you give me 100 dollars.

  12. If you have been saved through Yeshua ha'Mashiach (Jesus) you have nothing to fear. You can then be comforted and reconciled as you know that you can take part in the coming Kingdom of our Lord that is without sin and pain.

    Do NOT ever accept this:

  14. Something is about to go down now. Worry about 2008!

  15. No. That is just the end of the Mayan calendar, same as ours ends every Dec 31. If the Mayans were still around they would just start marking the days again as we start to do on Jan 1. We used the sun, they used a different star and that accounts for the difference.

  16. I'll have to get back to you on this in January 2013.

  17. of course - for everybody who's gonna die that year...

  18. That would be fun

  19. Its according to the mayans who said its the last day of the world. Nobody knows whats goin to happen to dat particular date. There were lot of hypes before dis date dat the world is goin to end but nothing happened. Scientists do predict the upcoming disasters dat may happen in future but they did not gave  any sort of hint dat the world would end on 2012.  Predictions are there dat mass extinction may occur in future but not the end of full human race.

So in short 2012 may be the end or it may not be !!!!! But dont be scared it will hamper ur future so just move on as usual.

  20. You should be scared.  When Nibiru comes you will die in fire, the flesh melting from your bones.  Hordes of Nibiru cockroaches will devour you as you burn.  And when you scream some of those aforementioned nibiru cockroaches will fill your mouth and lungs and your final moments will be a symphony of agony.  Your silent screams will echo through eternity.

Oh, wait!!  I forgot.  Nibiru is a total crock.  Nothing is going to happen.  I was just engaging in wishful thinking about what SHOULD happen to all those annoying people who post about 2012 and Nibiru.  Looking at what I've written, I think I've mellowed out WAY too much.  There should be a LOT more pain.

  21. No, it isn't.  There is no scientific theory or evidence that anything unusual is going to happen in 2012. It is a collection of myths and disproven theories being promulgated by doomsday predictors, who predict a new one every few years. The longer explanation is below:

It is based on the end of the current cycle of the Mayan long count calendar. No doomsday was predicted and the Mayan civilization died out, so a new cycle wasn’t written.

Niburu (Planet X) doesn't exist. Zecharia Sitchin is an author of books promoting the ancient astronaut theory for human origins. He attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Annunaki (or Nephilim) from a hypothetical planet named Nibiru in the solar system. The Doomsayers predicted that it was to hit Earth in 2003. Undaunted when it didn't show up, they just moved it out to 2012 to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar.

Galactic Alignment - takes 36 years to precess through galactic equator, we will be 6 degrees off in 2012.

Asteroid Apophis - the 2001 alert was for 2029, and was canceled after additional observations showed it would not hit us.

Polar Shift - the magnetic poles are moving all the time. Polar reversal happens over thousands of years.

Passage through a "photon belt" has been added. This is also untrue and wouldn't hurt us if it were. Photons are merely units of light.

Solar flares happen all the time and we have more of them at some times than others. They haven't caused any serious problems in the past. The direct effects of solar flares are mainly related to communications and radio transmissions. We had a major series of solar flares in 2005. Did you notice anything? I didn't.

  22. I used to be skeptical until things started ramping up with Iran and Russia. But what really made me rethink my position was when I found out what Bush and his boys had bought while we were all watching China's "Genocide Olympics":
