Is the world population already above the carrying capacity of the Earth?

  1. Obviously not. We're still here. We are quite a bit above previous estimates of carrying capacity, but advances in agriculture have been such that there's an oversupply of food, without being close to maximum.  There are problems in the details, of course, with overfishing of the oceans, political and economic difficulties with distribution, and perhaps even the current concerns about fossil fuels and global warming, but we seem to be adapting pretty well overall.


  2. We are WAY above the *natural* carrying capacity of the land.  It is only because of agriculture that we are able to support our large population.

  4. It would seem so, but there is a TON of open land around the world that no one lives on. But the more people we bring into this world, the quicker our resources get used up. More energy will be needed and if we dont take care of this global warming, we might not have much time left on this earth....
