Question:

Is the world ready for my musical?

I wrote a musical script that I hope to put on Broadway one day. This is a verrrry long shot, I know, but it's been my dream to create a significant piece that hopefully some people with enjoy or at least appreciate.

My idea for this show if very far fetched and I can understand if people aren't ready for it yet. The show is about a young mortician taking part in a serious murder investigation while struggling to maintain a steady business in a world that has trouble accepting the "profession of death". It takes place in a time where funeral homes and embalming are a new vocation. And the olden day "witch hunt" isn't exactly far gone.

I could really use some advice and maybe some ideas to carry the story along. I'm just a young writer who's looking for honest answers and I know how harsh the critics can be so I can take all kinds of criticism too.

  1. I think the premise sounds really interesting!

That's awesome that you have a goal like getting it produced on Broadway. My advice, though is to start a little smaller first though.

Finish all your re-writes til you're sure the script is the best it can be and then maybe enter it into a play writing competition of some sort. A lot of national competitions will allow the winner to produce their work on stage. From there it can get recognition (and exposure) and you could maybe move it to a larger venue.

From there, you'd have to find a producer willing to invest the money in mounting a Broadway show.

    Good luck!
