  1. What particularly do you need to know? If you book in advance you can get cheaper fares; off-peak tickets are also MUCH cheaper than peak tickets.

Sometimes two singles can be cheaper than one return, if one part of your journey is at peak time and the other not.

  2. Seat61 is a good starting point for train travel across most of the world, especially Europe. It's run by a Brit and there's a "30 second fare guide" on the site.

  3. I find if you are travelling a fair distance and coming back the same they its usually cheaper to buy combination of tickets. For example

    Doncaster - Rugby : SAVER RETURN  ÃƒÂ‚£45.80

    But If you did this....

Doncaster - Derby SAVER RETURN £17.70

Derby - Rugby SAVER RETURN 16.70

So this would save you about £12.

This is perfectly legal as long as the train calls at the station eg if you got a Doncaster - Derby ticket and a Derby - Rugby Ticket and the train Passed through Derby and not stop it wouldnt be valid. As long as it stops at Derby (which in this case they all do)it is valid and legal

    Hope this helps!
