  1. there isnt anything wrong with the baseball grip. if someone says there is, they just think they know more than anyone about nothing. do it how it feels comfortable

  2. nothing wrong with a baseball grip as long as you hold the club more in the fingers..If you hold it in the palms, you'll lose distance and accuracy...

  3. I'd like to know what kind of players these people are who are telling you to keep your crappy grip, because it's really bad advice.

Can you become a successful golfer with a strange grip? Of course you CAN, but you probably won't. If you try to learn the game with improper technique or mechanics, it's going to take you 10 times as long to learn to play well.

Of course a good grip felt funny the first time you tried it. Of course you couldn't hit the ball as well as with the grip you're used to. It was the first time. Nobody hits the ball down the middle of the fairway the first time the learn correct technique. You have to take the time to get used to your new techniques before they will work. But once they do, you'll be a much better golfer than before, and you will improve at a much faster rate.

So I will ask you one question: Have you shot anywhere close to par with your baseball grip? Have you even broken 80? If you haven't, then you'll be better off fixing your grip, and anything else that's wrong with your technique but "feels right."

  4. There is an accepted way that most succesful players grip the club, but if yours works for you don't worry about it.

  5. there is a right way but i don't do it right either!

  6. "Think" has a pretty good point about your left (I presume you are right-handed) thumb pointing down the shaft.  Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a 10 finger grip.  There was some dude who won or came in second at the British Amateur a few years back who was left-handed and played with a cross-hand grip (like a righty).  Wish I had a picture to show you.  That's a funky grip.

  7. Actually not really the key is the thumb I have hit full shots using and overlapping putting grip what this does is add one more finger to the Right hand and take away a finger on your left. I love this grip it gives you complete right hand control and release. The vardon grip is a overlapping grip with the pinky in your right hand fitting in a groove on your left very good grip. I hate the interlocking grip but who am I to argue to Jack and Tiger woods. The baseball grip is fine but you need to change one thing on your left hand by putting your thumb down the grip or shaft. This allows your right hand to fit on top of it.

If you don't do this your thumb gets in the way negating the squaring and release of both hands.

  8. Have you tried the overlap method.  It's similar to an interlock, but the pinky goes in between your left index and middle finger if you are right handed.  It may be more comfortable for you.  I tried interlocking and I felt I had more control overlapping.

  9. Are you talking about a baseball grip or a ten finger grip. They are very different.  A ten finger grip is not very popular but many tour players have made a nice living playing that way. I've only see in my life only one decent player who used a baseball grip.  (In the baseball grip, the left thumb for a rh player is behind the right hand.  A ten finger grip has the thumb on top of the shaft under the life line of the right hand.  The most popular with great players is the overlap and is generally accepted as the best because more fingers are touching the grip itself. Nicklaus, Tiger, and Kite are examples of players use the next most popular-the interlock.  If your grip is poor, you will struggle to get better.  As an instructor I see lots of reluctance to change grip because it feels so uncomfortable at first. A new grip even if properly done will feel terrible. Give it some time if changing.
