them pulling my credit? I need to get new car insurance since after i get married I can no longer be on my parents but they all say they need to pull a driver record (understandable) and credit report why do they need a credit report I want to shop around but I don't have that good of credit (since of some stuff that happed last year) and in process of building it back up and everytime a credit is pulled it hurts your credit score.

Most insurance companies are pulling credit now.  It's just a way for them to try and make more money.  It should be illegal considering that you don't buy insurance with a loan.  Credit is not involved in the process.  Their reasoning is that people with bad credit cause more claims.

There are still some companies that don't use credit.  You need to find an agent that can contract through several companies, not just Farmers, GEICO, etc.  Tell the agent you want a company that doesn't use credit, they will be able to do the rest.

I guess they want a credit report as they want to make a learned guess about you before deciding how big a risc you are and subsequently quoting you a price.

I didn't know it hurts your credit score each time someone accesses the details, are you sure of this? I say this because each time my car insurance is due for renewal I spend 2 weeks or more getting quotes from just about every insurer in the country and my score is spotless. I do the same with the cable company and a few other things, my credit is pulled 1000 times each year yet it's still spotless.

How can it be any different since I have never had any issues and all my bills are on autopay with money in the bank to cover them?
