  1. Hello, and thanks for this interesting question...

In real life, a single live camera shot of the Sun would not

show you very much in the way of collected information such as a possible Web Cam mounted on a mountain top and aimed at the Sun... For Several Reasons:

The Sun moves across the sky and is out of view for about half a day every day (from Earth's surface).

Direct observation of the Sun is not possible (danger from

intense light levels) with normal equipment. Special filters

and or display mats must be used and then pictures of the image shown on those mats may be made to preclude direct viewing.

Many of the most interesting features of the Sun would not

be visable through a regular view anyway. The SOHO satellite is positioned in space to view and photograph the Sun 24/7 and has BLUE, RED, GREEN, and YELLOW filtered pics available for viewing which are simply unreal, and far beyond what a citizen might do at home.

In addition, various scientific instrument scans of the Sun are

also presented on the SOHO Satellite Web Page which are useful in getting some idea of the intensity of solar storms and flares when they occur. Forecasts of radio communications interruptions and degradations or improvements may be made using those pics over time.

You are welcome to lok at those pics via the Internet by

    visiting:

    http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/home.html

The home page allows you to choose either current pics

or pics from an archive of past solar pics. It will knock your

    socks off.

    Cheers,

    Zah

  2. There are images of the Sun from the SOHO satellite at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/real...

Not quite live but probably as close as you will get.
