And if so, where at, and what bait are best.

If they are the on piers, or inlets, and if so, which ones?

One more question, do blues (bluefish) get over their in winter, or are they year round fish??

Thanks a bunch guys!!

  1. I have had very good luck catching reds on the Courtney Cambell causeway.......don't know anything about blues except they aren't very good eating........at least to me they aren't.......too oily

  2. Canals. You want to fish oyster-laden feeder creeks or canals with a decent tidal influence.

Rarely do Reds hang around any "major" Piers.

Area Inlets can be super-hot but usually only in the Fall or Early Spring.

Wading the flats, (like Howard Park, Sand Key Park), can be productive but are ussually the domain of Spec Trout.

    Your best bet?

"Muddy", oyster-laden, flats & creeks that have Spartina grass. "Ben T Davis Municipal Beach" can be productive.

If I were you, I would take a drive around the residential areas looking for decent access to a canal...

Blues- Winter fish. You "can" catch them in Summer but it's rare.

Best bet for Tampa this time of year, (from shore)- Sand Trout, early morning Spec Trout, fishing inlets for big Snook, Etc.

In any case, early morning or late afternoon being the best times to fish.....

Hope this helps Snapper? Good fishing!
