I have a Guinea Pig cage that I want to use for my hamster, because her cage is too small. But I know that if she wanted to, she could squeeze through. So is there any way that I could like tie strings around the cage to make the bar spacing smaller? Any ideas will be helpful! Thanks!

  1. Other than trying to squeeze them together, I don't think that there is a safe way to do it.

Putting string or even zipties are not safe. There is the risk of chocking on the string.

Try getting a plastic bin from walmart and converting it into a cage.

  2. I would just get a new cage. I like these....

  3. Typically, you buy hardware cloth (Coated is best) and zip tie it to the bars.  However, finding some with a spacing small enough to not let a hamster out is tricky, and i have to wonder what it is that is suitable to house a hamster, that wasn't too small for a guinea pig.  Personally, I'd just go out and find a new cage.

  4. You could buy hardware cloth (small square mesh) and attach it to the sides, although for the trouble, it would probably be easier to just get a different cage.  You might be able to trade the cage with someone (such as on craigslist).

  5. I think your best bet would be to buy a new cage for your hamster. Guinea pig cages usually don't have enough levels to entertain a hamster. You don't want to risk the hamster getting through the bars of the guinea pig cage, either.
