  1. Hi J. A. G,

    Basically not much.

The manufacturers have seperated the two out into three main types - the single, insulated jacket, the 3-in-1 jacket and the shell jacket. You'll find all the features of a SB jacket in a ski jacket and visa versa, from the same manufacturer.

just with SBing becoming so popular the last ten years, they have got on the band wagon - not a bad thing though.

I've got both types, a "ski" and a "SB" jacket  and the main differance to me is in the fit and insulating properties. Ski jackets tend to be more of a "shaped" fitting than SB jackets and are "insulated".

If the jacket you are looking at is a "shell" ie no insulation, a Gortex or similar tech jacket (you'll definitely have to wear a hoody or something under it), then consider a 3-in-1 jacket. That's my SB jacket and i consider them the best. they have a shell with a hook/zip-in fleece jacket - great versatility for the price of one. My other one is a mid-range spyder "ski" jacket. just the single insulated, all bells and whistles set up which i wear on c**p days.

If you only can afford only one jacket go for a 3-in1. You can wear the waterproof fleece on awesome days and the whole combo on hardcore days. I like detachable hoods to. Ditto above info for pants to.

I brought the ski jacket out of eBay also, so have a scroll through there . Check your size closely - go a size bigger is my advice. If you're on the upper limits of a size , definietly go up one.  Visit a ski shop to, "drive B4 ya buy .."

    Cheers !
