Question:

Is there ANY chance I could be pregnant? Hubby was snipped and I'm on the pill!

I know it sounds crazy, but my hubby had a vasectomy 6 years ago. a few weeks ago my GYN put me on the pill to help me get normal periods. My last period was may 12 and according to a home ovulation test, it said I was ovulating. When I saw my Doctor in July I still had not had a period so he put me on meds to get my period and start the pill. I did have a negative urine test in the doc's office and he said that he didn't think I was pregnant by the exam, but it's hard to tell so early. I'm on the 2nd week of the pill and I'm spotting irregularly with some clots, by nipples hurt, I'm extremely bloated, but firm. We went to a theme park over the weekend and I got horrible cramps after coming off one of the rides!

I'm starting to go crazy and I feel neurotic! Any answers out there?

  1. i very highly doubt your pregnant...the odds are impossibly heavily stacked against it....

maybe go change your pill...might be the cause of your cramps etc..

    good luck

  2. A man's body can "reverse" a vasectomy.  Where the vas deferens was cut, the body wants to put the two ends back together and sometimes the tube will grow back.  The procedure that urologists have been using for the last 10 or 15 years wraps a piece of tissue over each cut end, which evidently prevents most of them from regrowing.  So is it possible that your husband has a new tube and his little swimmers are going for the long distance title?  Well...technically it's possible.  Realistically, the likelihood is pretty low.

If you're concerned, you can always have your husband go back to his urologist and ask for a test to make certain.  If he's one of the rare men who regrow, I'm sure his doctor would like to know.

The pill tends to make all of us think we're pregnant at first.  I take a progestin-only pill to help with early menopause symptoms (estrogen gives me blood clots), and at least once a year I get the bloating, achy, tender nipples, "oh c**p I'm pregnant" feeling - but my husband not only got snipped, he's been incapable for several years now due to diabetes, so there is no way on this earth that I can be (and our daughter is grown and has a baby of her own - I'm too old to do the baby bit again).  But it still feels that way now and then.

You aren't crazy and you aren't neurotic.  You're on a new medication that makes you jumpy, and you're stressed because you're worried.  It'll be okay.  No worries - no babies.

  3. Your just paranoid and stressing the thought, your probly going through a false pregnancy. If hes snipped how would he have active live sperm to fertilize your egg????? The pill is making your periods irregular.

  4. It is possible, but a very remote chance.  My guess would be that your body is trying to adjust to the new meds your on.  I was late on my depo shot, which I use for birth control, and I was experiencing all the same symptoms you are now.  Once my body's hormones got regulated again, I was fine.

  5. You just got put on the pill..it will mess with you for a couple months before your body gets a routine down. if you dont take it everyday at the same time, it will mess it up also. Very unlikly you are pregnant.

  6. Not having your period for awhile can cause those symptoms, I use to have the same ones when I was on seasonale (the one where you get your period every 3 months) after it had been a few months without a period. You may want to ask your dr to find out what is causing the irregular periods instead of just being on birth control pills since you are still having problems. It is very unlikely though that your pregnant.
