  1. I say bring your cat inside at night. Also you could set a motion sensor light outside. I also heard somewhere about a device used by ranchers to keep wolves away from their animals. It has a motion sensor on it and when something trips the sensor, the device makes a horrible racket that drives the animal off. I'll search for the name of the device and update my answer if I find it.

    -Edit-

If whoever thumbs downed me for suggesting to shoot the coyote if nothing else worked then sooorrry. I myself don't like shooting animals and that is always a last resort for me.

    -Edit-

I forgot that the predators scared off by the device had to be wearing radio collars. Maybe you can get the game warden to relocate the coyotes or get permission from him to shoot them if they get in your yard again.

  2. umm keep your pets inside?

  3. since you know there are coyotes coming and killing your cats maybe you should bring them inside of the house...

you can check the laws in your state (cause some will issue permits to get rid of the problem coyotes) or get hold of a game warden cause when we had problems with coyotes and our livestock we were allowed to shoot them (we had to obtain permission tho)..

  4. Keep your pets inside.  There is no other way.  Coyotes are wild and because we are encroaching on their habitat, they will hunt in urban areas for food whether it be out of your garbage cans or your animals.

  5. If you cat is your LIFE...then keep it inside!!!!!!  I cannot stress enough if you live in an area with coyotes, keep you small pets indoors where they will be safe.  You cannot stop nature, but you CAN keep your domesticated animals inside where they belong.  There are plenty of other outdoor dangers besides coyotes.  If you already had one cat killed..why on earth would you continue to let your other cat out!  If you say your cat will be unhappy indoors...will he be happy to be DEAD if you let him out???

  6. There is no 100% effective way to keep your cat safe outside but there are measures you could take to lessen the chances of your cat being a meal for Mr. Coyote.

A good net wire or chain link fence around the yard or part of the yard can keep a coyote out. It will not keep the cat inside though. Electric fencing is made to keep coyotes out also and low enough it would keep the cat in but the cat would not like it.

Keeping the cat inside at dawn and dusk would help also.

A good dog. A big one can keep coyotes out of the yard. Great Pyrenees are preferred by goat people. A good mule or donkey does the same thing.

You could have a professional trapper come set poison bombs but that would just be a temporary fix, as the coyotes will return.
