Is there Exit Passport control/Immigration at the San Jose Costa Rica airport?

Does SanJose airport in Costa Rica have exit immigration/passport control?or is it like the USA where you dont go through immigration or passport control when you exit but only when you enter the country?

  1. Yes they do have passport control before you leave the airport.


  2. There is an exit control.  They will verify that you haven't overstayed your visa and that you have paid your departure tax ($26).  If you have overstayed, I think you can just pay a modest fine ($5 a day??) there at the airport.  This was the case several years ago, but I am not up to date on this so you had better check if this is an issue for you.
