  1. I would say that any 32" LCD would be suitable, but you have to be realistic - it's going to look grainier than a DVD, or than your neighbour's high-def signal.  And if you get a bigger screen, the graininess will become even more apparent.  Make sure all your connections are tight, and there aren't a bunch of splitters  on your cable before it gets to the TV - these will degrade the picture.

  2. I have a 32 inch Olevia LCD tv and it has a great picture.  also Westinghouse LCDs are very nice

  3. i doubt it,  just hooked up my 42" lcd yesterday and found that the regular non-digital channels are grainy. the digital high-def channels look great though, so does my dvd and ps2. so i can live with the grainy reg chans

  4. First - standard def channels can be played on a 1950's television.  It was designed for a 9-inch tube, black and white. (Color was sleezed in later).

When you see this old technology displayed on a high-res television - you see all the grain/noise/artifacts that were the limits of technology in 1950.

This is why it looks bad.

Some televisions like from Samsung include a special chip from a company called 'Faroudja'. Standard def video is fed into this chip and it does a decent job of up-conversion.

It still looks bad compared to true HD channels, but it makes standard def tolerable.

I know Samsung was including the Faroudja chip in their higher end televisions.  I dont know about a 32" LCD, but hit the stores and look for "DCdi" or "Faroudja" lables on the front of Samsung televisions.
