I do not believe that there is a 5th dimension.  However, cosmologists working on String theory, M-theory and other hypotheses on the origin of our 3-dimensional universe, will gladly disagree with me.

December 21 (or 23 depending on the Mayan school you attended) will not reveal anything, other than those who bought "the book" might survive... along with the rest of us.

The date appears to be approaching at an average rate of one day per 24 hour period.  Is that "looming"?  Perhaps.

Fear not for 2012 is just the revealing of the 'antichrist' or the 'man of lawlessness' at the middle of what Jews and Christians call the 7 year Tribulation. Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

if you believe in the string theory of the univese, you will believe there are 11 dimensions. but if you are with big bang theory, there are no more than 4 dimensions. the remaining 7 dimensions of the string theory can be obtained by combining the 4 dimensions in different aspects. there had been no solid proofs about the string theory, so i beleive in what the most scientists believe --- there are 4 dimensions.
