  2. Bamboo will probably grow for you, but you should not plant it.  It is horribly invasive, and as the other answer from Canada said it is growing everywhere.  It is not native to your area, therefore has no critters to eat it up.  It and other invasive plants are taking over the eco system and wiping out native plants.  Please find something else to plant.

  3. I live in north-central British Columbia. (Start at Prince Rupert, on the coast, and follow the Trans Canada Highway until half-way between Terrace and Smitners. According to one authority, the most beautiful stretch of road in Canada, and said to be on of the 10 in the World), but cold and wintry, when it gets that way. It's been getting warmer, and that's why the pine beetles have exterminated a major part of our province's forests, and are moving north .....)

But I digress.  Our climate likely is as harsh, if not harsher than yours. My next-door neighbour has a clump of bamboo near her front steps that grows almost uncontrollably. Perhaps different kinds of bamboo flourish under different conditions?

I have no idea where else in the world bamboo might grow ....

  4. One of the forums that wheather referenced mentioned Fargesia.

This is a nice cold tolerant CLUMPING bamboo that is NOT invasive and may work for you

Stay away from the Phylostaches genera, they do spead if you ignore them.

For the other answers. PLEASE know bamboo before you answer bamboo questions. To say ALL bamboo is terribly invasive and should never be planted is just WRONG. Teach yourself about bamboo or dont answer the questions

  5. I don't really know off the top of my head, but take a look at this map, find out your climate zone, and then it might be easier to find a species of bamboo that will survive.
