Is there a Chinese alphabet???

i just curious my chinese teach my class everything but alphabet so we dont get coughed up in the our work

  2. No.  There is but it's only used for words that are made up or foreign words like the name Eric or Jennifer.  Words that doesn't come up too often in the Chinese language.  It really never existed until the western alphabet was introduced to them.  Sorry to burst your bubble.

    Chinese use root words mostly.  These root words are like the foundation of another word.  Other characters are added to the root word to form another word.  Which you probably discovered by now in your class.

  3. Yes, there is an "alphabet" which is called ZhuYing or BoPoMoFo (the first few ones, so it's like saying "ABCD" for English, haha). However, learning these only helps you to learn pronounce the words (it's something little kids learn).

    In everyday Chinese, say, the newspaper, you will not find the zhuying next to the words unless it is in the young children's reading section.
