  1. A test on the mitochondrial DNA (mDNA) will result in a string of letters (G,A, T, C). This is tested against strings  from known Irish people for points of commonality.

If certain 'words' are found in common than you can say you have Irish heritage

MDNA is only passed from the maternal line so you could say that you mother(grandmother etc) had Irish heritage.

From a less scientific standpoint I know an Irishman and a Swede who share many similar characteristics (physical and psychological). There is a lot of Skanda blood in the Gaelic world.

  2. Your are blindfolded and presented with a table containing a pint of Kilkenny and a pints of other countries beers.

Only a true son of ireland will drink the Kilkenny.....by drinking everything on the table.

The problem of genetics is that the Irish are not just one people and not distinct from say other people's in a region.

However in the field of extreme geneology it is likely that they can trace your anscestory back many generations.....infact they can trace it back as far as our distant ancestors in Africa 70,000 + years ago. So go talk to a geneologist.

  3. not specific DNA test, but each nationality has certain genes that nationality's DNA will usually contain
