  1. I concur with Andrew, watch episode 14 of The History Channel's "The Universe" series 1. It is a feature length episode that summarises much of how we came to know about the Big Bang.

The "open" and "closed" models of the universe you mention are discussed in the last episode of series 2, if I'm not mistaken. I think it's episode 18.

  2. All began by the collision of two branas. This collision created a Big Bang. The Big Bang created a expansion of the universe. Due to temperature fluctuations some matter got bigger and formed the planets, the stars and the galaxies.

  3. a show on the history channel called "the universe" did a two-hour documentary on the big bang, what it instilled, the mechanics of it, and the recent theories behind it, look into that.

  4. Carl Sagans Cosmos?

  5. yes but i forgot the movie

    cheak sciencechannel.com to be sure
