Is there a High School for a High IQ / Functioning Asperger's child?

I have a very high IQ/ high functioning Asperger's teen. I'm trying desperately to find a school for him. When he learns online or in small groups, the sky's the limit. But, in 30 person classes, it goes slow and he loses interest (and papers and the book and etc....) and gains nothing but a bad grade. I've found one High school that looks good but it's in California. I'm looking for something closer. Anyone have any ideas?

  1. usually in public schools they can have a IEP done and he can learn with fewer kids on his level. you shouldn't have to move across the country for this. check your neighborhood schools and see if this can be done instead

  2. if you live near Leeds england

st Wilfrid's catholic high school is fab

and there are loads of special needs helpers

  3. There are some high schools that have online classes.  I don't know where you live so I can't respond further.  However, you could check with your local community college and see if they have some online classes that he can take with dual enrollment status.  Most colleges have online versions of most of the basic classes.

  4. Before you consider moving, I would really recommend sitting down with teachers and administration and discussing the needs of your child and what accommodations can be made for his learning styles.  They should be able to work with you to determine what he needs to be successful.  Of course, if your son is in special education this would be discussed at his IEP team meeting.

I have not heard of a school that specializes in high functioning Aspergers, usually these kids are mainstreamed into public education.  Good luck!
