Is there a Law that says " Profanity in Public" is Punishable by Law ? If so, when did it become a Law, and where can I find information on it ? I know it is Rude, Obnoxious, and etc to do this , but would like to know if there has been a Law Passed that says .. one can be punished by law if they use profanity in public.

  1. If there were such a law, it would violate the US Constitution. But then again there are current laws that do violate the constitution. The list of freedoms is constantly getting shorter. So don't be surprised if it were to happen.

  2. In some countries, yes, it is illegal. In the US, there is no law against public profanity. However, you can get in legal trouble if you are "Disturbing The Peace"or for "Harassment"... It really all depends on the situation and what is being said and to whom.  For example, you can't scream and cuss at your wife or child in public... Well you can, but then you run the risk of being cited.  Good luck!

  3. There is no law against profanity in public. I here people use it in public and they don't get in trouble.

  4. It's not true that there are no laws against profanity in public. Many states/municipalities have laws against foul language and in some areas these laws are enforced.  Don't assume it's legal just because you haven't seen the law enforced.

On August 4 of this year in Houston a woman was ticketed for using the "F" word in public.

At one time in this country people were considerate of other people and didn't use bad language around children and women.  Presently, however, many just say, "Hey, it's free speech, I can say what I want and you have no right to complain." What a mature attitude -- not.
