I love Ubuntu, a few people I know would like to try it, but are not as good with computers. If there is a distro similar to it in the speed and appearance but more user friendly for basic users that would be great. When do you think ubuntu will have flash and mp3 support built in with out people me having to help people install it? lol.

  1. Hi now with the latest version of Ubuntu I don't think "I'm a beginner " should be a problem.

You can keep your windows as it is and install Ubuntu right from windows with a setup that's simpler than installing photoshop lol

Just check this out and you'll know why

As for mp3 support and flash support its really easy to get them I'll put it in my blog in 2-3 days just keep an eye on it.

  2. ubuntu is still the best for you. its the most widley used distro and believe it or not is geared for beginers. ubuntu has flash already and mp3 and other codes are really simple to install. to get flash try to watch a youtube vid then get redirected to the page and install it. if it plays on 2 secs then stops, get lib flash somethng i forgot lol from synaptic package manager and it sorts it out. mp3 is downloaded when you try to play an mp3 file.

  3. If you are getting along with Ubuntu, then I suggest Linux Mint 5.0 (Main Edition) all media support you have outlined above comes packaged. To download Linux Mint 5.0 http://www.linuxmint.com/mirrors.php?id=...

    LUg.

    Edit :

To enable multi-media support on Ubuntu 8.04, Open a Terminal and submit the following command :

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

    LUg.
