Metformin is an over the counter drug prescription. I suggest you buy your medicine from where you are prior to your travel. Meanwhile, I don't think you would need Metformin in the Philippines as I am pretty sure your diabetes will be gone before you know it. You'll be having fun in the Philippines.

If you're coming from Australia or the US, I should warn you that prescription drugs are cheaper there than it is in the Philippines.  If you're coming the Philippines for a short break, it might be a good idea to bring enough Metformin to tide you over until your trip home.

If you're staying in the Philippines for an extended period, however, you'd be relieved to know that Metformin is found in the Philippines in various formulations and most drug stores carry it.  

You might want to buy your meds in Mercury Drug.  It is a very reputable pharmacy here.  They have quite a large network and some branches operate 24-hours.  Finding one should be easy.  To find one that is near where you're staying, go to https://www.mercurydrug.com/cgi-bin/prod...  If you're staying in Manila, just click on https://www.mercurydrug.com/cgi-bin/prod... and choose your specific location.

Metformin is not an over the counter drug here.  You will need a prescription to purchase it.  Make sure that your doctor gives you the generic name of the specific Metformin formulation and the dosage.  If you have your doctor's prescription with you, you can just show that to the pharmacists or counter clerk.  Failing that, you can get your hotel doctor to give you a prescription.  Just show him/her the medicine you brought with you to identify the generic name and the dosage.
