I was told that Georgina was the name for a flower indigenous to Russia

  1. Georgina comes from the word Γηωργος (Georgos) in Ancient Greek. Ge means land or soil and ergon means work thus the one who works on land or shortly farmer. Georgina is naturally the female version of the name. Greeks today use Giorgos version of this name and pronounce it like Yorgos. As far as i know there's no female version of the name they use.


  2. "Dahlia" is "georgin" (the both "g" are pronounced like in a word "gun") in Russian. But I highly doubt that they are of a Russian origin, both are Latin, I believe.

  3. No. Georgina is just the female form of George, which is a Greek name. Georgin (георгин) is in fact a flower - the dahlia (which is not native to Russia), and the Russian plant name is derived from the last name of a German naturalist - Johann Gottlieb Georgi.

  4. Georgina is a version of Georgia which is a Greek female given name derived from the Greek word for "farmer".

    But of course all the Christians use it.
